JH-380 Automatic Pipe ID Hardfacing Machine
Automated Internal Bore Overlay Welding for Wear-Resistant Pipes
The JH-380 Pipe ID Hardfacing Machine is an automatic welding system developed by JINHUA for wear-resistant overlay welding on the internal surface of straight pipes.
The system combines synchronized pipe rotation, automatic welding carriage movement, long-distance wire feeding, PLC digital control, circulating water cooling and programmable welding trajectories.
It is designed to solve one of the main challenges of internal pipe hardfacing: maintaining stable wire feeding, torch positioning and weld bead formation deep inside long pipes.
The standard JH-380 can handle pipe diameters from approximately Ø120 to Ø1000 mm and supports internal hardfacing lengths of up to 6000 mm through welding from both ends where required.

Standard capacities of the JH-380 internal pipe hardfacing system, together with the welding modes and process functions it provides.
What Is the JH-380 Pipe ID Hardfacing Machine?
The JH-380 is specifically designed to deposit a wear-resistant alloy layer onto the inside diameter (ID) of pipes.
During production, the pipe rotates on synchronized rollers while the welding head moves according to the programmed welding path.
The system coordinates:
- Pipe rotation speed
- Welding carriage movement
- Wire feeding speed
- Welding current
- Welding voltage
- Welding position
- Weld bead overlap
- Oscillation
- Cooling
- Alarm monitoring
This allows a continuous wear-resistant layer to be deposited along the internal pipe surface.
Depending on the welding consumables and process parameters, the machine can be used for manufacturing or rebuilding wear-resistant lined pipes and internally hardfaced pipes.
Internal bore overlay welding — a wear-resistant alloy layer deposited on the inside diameter of the pipe.
Long-reach internal welding — welding torch and wire feeding arranged for deep-pipe operation.
Designed for Long-Distance Internal Pipe Welding
One of the key technical challenges of internal pipe hardfacing is delivering welding wire reliably to a torch positioned several meters inside the pipe.
The JH-380 uses a specially designed welding torch, welding cable and wire feeding arrangement to reduce feeding resistance.
The wire feeder travels together with the welding system, helping maintain a shorter and more controlled wire path.
This allows stable wire feeding even when the welding torch operates deep inside the pipe.
For suitable pipe dimensions, the system can perform internal hardfacing over lengths of up to approximately:
For long pipes, welding from both pipe ends may be required to complete the full internal surface.
Three Automatic Welding Modes
The JH-380 supports several welding trajectories according to the required overlay structure.
Spiral Welding
The pipe rotates continuously while the welding torch moves along the pipe axis. The combined motion produces a continuous spiral weld bead around the internal surface.
This is one of the main processes for continuous internal pipe overlay welding.
Spiral Oscillation Welding
During spiral welding, the torch can also perform controlled oscillation. Oscillation can help increase:
- Weld bead width
- Surface coverage
- Overlay uniformity
- Deposition efficiency
The appropriate oscillation parameters depend on the welding wire, pipe diameter and required overlay thickness.
Straight-Line Welding
The machine can also perform straight welding passes for specific internal hardfacing applications.
This provides greater process flexibility when the required overlay pattern differs from conventional spiral welding.
Welding trajectories — spiral, spiral oscillation and straight-line welding patterns.
Breakpoint Recovery Welding
Resume Welding After Wire or Process Interruption
During long continuous welding cycles, production may stop because of:
- Welding wire running out
- Wire feeding interruption
- Drive alarm
- Welding process abnormality
The JH-380 automatically stops when selected abnormalities are detected.
The touchscreen displays relevant alarm information, while audible and visual warning devices alert the operator.
After the problem is corrected, the system can return to the recorded interruption position and continue the welding process.
Interrupted welding can continue from the recorded location instead of requiring manual position searching.
Process monitoring — the PLC monitors welding operation and machine status during the cycle.
This helps reduce:
- Missing weld sections
- Manual position searching
- Excessive overlap
- Rework
- Production downtime
